Street Art and Caves Tour in Granada

Every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday

3:00pm to 6:00pm

Come joins us for this great 3 hours walk to discover alternative side of Granada. See the three oldest neighbourhoods in the City ~ Albayzin ,Sacromonte and Realejo and their amazing Street Art from different graffiti artists + the highest view points , gypsy caves from the inside and cold beer with the view of the mountains.

Take a look to the alternative side of Granada, a mix of modern culture and history.

During the XVI century, a mix of Muslims, Jews and Gypsies, expelled from their homes started to occupy this hill in the outskirts of Granada. What begun to be basic holes in the mountain, became proper houses with different rooms and facilities. Nowadays, this neighbourhood shows the historic caves and some other new caves occupied by modern hippies who come to Granada from around the world.

Street Art, also known as graffitis, is one of the surprises that Granada has to offer to its visitors.

Despite the world famous Alhambra and Albaicín neighbourhood, some walls of Granada have been painted with murals representing messages of inspiration and protest. Most of these paintings are in Realejo, the old Jewish neighbourhood, where Campo del Príncipe and Cuarto Real are worth a visit.

“El Niño de las Pinturas” in Realejo

One of the most famous street artist in Granada is known as “El Niño de las Pinturas”, who also lived in Realejo, where you will have the chance to see some of his famous graffitis who let him became very popular in the street art scene world wide. One of his latest works was the walls of a New York hotel.

The tour will leave the hostel at 3 pm to first lead you to the Realejo along the Calle Molinos which is populated with some Street Art on the way. From there you will go up to the Alhambra hills to have one of the first views of the city from one of those places not everybody gets to see while in Granada: Carmen de los Mártires. A romantic style garden for those who want to escape from the city stress to find peace and freshness under the shade of its trees.

“Cuesta de los Chinos”

From Carmen de los Mártires you will be going down “Cuesta de los Chinos”, the historic way to connect the Alhambra and the city which will bring you back to the times of Muslim Granada. This way will take us down to cross the Darro River and into Paseo de los Tristes, one of the most popular places of Granada with breathtaking views of the Alhambra right above you.

Sacromonte

From this point, we start another climb into the Sacromonte, to see the old gipsy caves and the hippy ones, ending up on the highest view point of Granada. The climb is a bit hard, but we are sure the panoramic views are worth it. The combination of Sierra Nevada, Albaicin, Alhambra and the rest of city will be one of the best images you will get during your trip.

Albaicín neighbourhood

From here we will start the way back to the hostel crossing the Albaicín neighbourhood. White houses, narrow streets, ups and downs, hidden squares and the most popular point in Granada after the Alhambra: Mirador de San Nicolás. Always filled with life, some music and people from all over the world, this place is famous for its sunset lights with the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada in the background. Bill Clinton named it “the most beautiful sunset”. A visit to Granada is never complete without passing by this place.

Mirador de la Lona

After the mandatory picture in San Nicolas, we continue the way down to the hostel visiting the last of the viewpoints: Mirador de la Lona, where you can have an overlook of the new parts of the city and the “Vega de Granada”. Known to be the garden where most of fruits and vegetables are watered with Genil river.

This will be the last point of our tour before heading back to the hostel. Whether if you are spending a short time in Granada or longer, this tour is the best option to have a full visit to the city in short time. It covers all the main sights you have to see of Granada and it can be a good introduction to get a deeper view later.

This tour is scheduled on Wednesday, Friday and Sundays. Leaving from the hostel at 3pm and lasting approximately 3 hours. Mike, the guide, has been leading this tour for 8 years receiving many positive reviews from our guests:
